Currents Notes
What is a current?
A current is a moving body of water in a specific direction.
What is a Golf Stream?
A golf Stream is the thousands of years it takes to happen.
What is a Eddy Current?
Smaller currents coming out from big currents.
What is a density currents?
Currents that are based on their density.
What is a Surface Circulation?
A path that is driven by the wind.
What is a Deep Circulation?
A circulation that is driven by density.
What is a Gyre?
A circular motion in the ocean that takes 10 years to happen.
What is a Coriolis Effect?
It is what controls the direction that water moves.
What is the three causes of currents?
Wind, Temperature, and gravity.
What is Gravity currents?
Wind that pushes the currents, but gravity sinks the currents.
What is a longshore current?
Currents carry sand and drops it off at land.
What is a upwelling?
A current that moves up and down, carrying nutrients.
